Youth Programs
Methodist Youth Fellowship (MYF)
Methodist Youth Fellowship (MYF) is under the direction of Debbie Kontra. MYF meets every Sunday following at 6:30 p.m. In addition to our regular meetings, we are also getting our youth involved in the life of Asbury, by helping out at concerts when needed and our church breakfast. We also lead a worship service on Good Friday evening and other regular worship services two or three times a year. Our youth also help serve communion, read scripture and acolyte.
We are not all business. . . we like to have fun too. We go on weekend retreats to Camp Innabah, in Pughtown, PA. To help off-set some of these costs, so each youth will not have to pay out as much, we have a hoagie sale for the Super Bowl each year. We are currently looking into other ways to help raise money for other fun things like bowling, miniature golf, and either Dorney Park or Hershey Park. Some possible ideas for other fund raisers being worked on is a car wash and/or bake sale.
MYF is open to all youth grades 5 to 12. If you are a member of another church and your church does not have a program for youth, you are more than welcome to join us.
If you have any questions about our youth program, give us a call at (610) 272-1233 or send us an email at myf@asbury-unitedmethodist.org.
Scholarship Fund
In 1992, a trust fund was established to financially assist members of the church to advance their vocational skills and education. Annually, the Scholarship Fund Committee receives applications and determines the number and amount of scholarships, which are equally distributed among the recipients. From 1993 to 2004, Asbury has given 60 scholarships totaling over $50,000.
